Alan Fetterman is a highly noted artist on the forefront of the art scene in Bucks County today. His work is sought and collected as he is recognized as one of major forces continuing
the Bucks County art legacy. Born and raised in Pennsylvania and growing up in Doylestown and Plumsteadville in the 60's and 70's gave Alan his endearing connection and affinity for the
bucolic and cultural surroundings that Bucks County has long been noted for. After graduating from Central Bucks East High School in 1976, he began his lifelong interests in the humanities. |

He has traveled extensively in and out of Europe 20 to 30 times, living and learning the cultural values and aesthetics such travel would allow. Always
returning home to his roots in Bucks County and living in many old homes and farms between Doylestown and the Delaware River, he began writing poetry and music and though Alan began drawing
as a child, he did not begin to paint until he was the age of 35.
Though he did not school in the fine arts nor study under another artist, his innate approach to creating art is well founded with a volume of lifetime observations and self-studies in the
arts and humanities. With a degree in American Studies from Bucks County Community College and as a Kay Scholar from the University of Pennsylvania in Philosophy, Alan transfers knowledge into
art and aspires to the aesthetic concept of "The Art Spirit."
Alan Fetterman says of his work, "After painting almost entirely plein-air for more than a decade, I began to realize new dilation and growth by embracing other mediums and expressions;
such as abstraction, sculpture, photography, music and poetry. Now, I simply follow the strings of constructive human inertia and do not settle for less then full pursuit towards a larger creative
lexicon and artistic language. I believe the process of problem solving includes the sentience of energy and a deep observation of human design, conditions paramount in artistic growth. In
return, I believe a natural reflection of environment and self will occur." | |
Alan is a long-standing member of the Philadelphia Sketch Club and New York City's Salmagundi Club. As an award winning American artist, he has had 21 solo-exhibitions and over 120 group
shows. He has also had multiple exhibits in Carmel, California and South America. His works are collected throughout the United States and abroad. He lives in Buckingham with his wife Sherrie
and children, Windsor, Brandy, Tia and Jackson; and Los perros Rio, Sage, and Bonsai. Biography and Background (pdf)
